The prospect of living in Zimbabwe is somewhat of a gamble at the moment, so you could envision that there might be little desire for patronizing Zimbabwe's casinos. In reality, it appears to be working the opposite way around, with the crucial market circumstances leading to a larger ambition to bet, to try and discover a quick win, a way from the crisis.

For many of the citizens subsisting on the abysmal local money, there are two common forms of gaming, the state lotto and Zimbet. As with practically everywhere else on the globe, there is a national lottery where the chances of profiting are unbelievably low, but then the jackpots are also very big. It's been said by market analysts who look at the concept that the majority do not buy a ticket with a real expectation of hitting. Zimbet is founded on one of the national or the British soccer divisions and involves predicting the outcomes of future games.

Zimbabwe's casinos, on the other shoe, look after the very rich of the society and tourists. Until recently, there was a considerably big sightseeing business, built on nature trips and trips to Victoria Falls. The market anxiety and connected violence have cut into this trade.

Amongst Zimbabwe's gambling halls, there are 2 in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has five gaming tables and slot machines, and the Plumtree gambling den, which has only slot machines. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has only slot machines. Mutare contains the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, both of which have gaming tables, slot machines and video poker machines, and Victoria Falls has the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, each of which have video poker machines and tables.

In addition to Zimbabwe's gambling halls and the previously alluded to lottery and Zimbet (which is quite like a parimutuel betting system), there are also two horse racing complexes in the state: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the 2nd city) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Since the economy has contracted by beyond forty percent in the past few years and with the connected deprivation and conflict that has come to pass, it is not known how healthy the vacationing industry which is the foundation for Zimbabwe's casinos will do in the near future. How many of the casinos will survive till things improve is merely unknown.
