The prospect of living in Zimbabwe is something of a risk at the current time, so you could imagine that there would be little affinity for going to Zimbabwe's gambling halls. In reality, it appears to be working the opposite way around, with the critical market circumstances leading to a larger eagerness to bet, to try and find a quick win, a way out of the difficulty.

For many of the people subsisting on the abysmal local earnings, there are two established types of betting, the national lottery and Zimbet. Just as with most everywhere else in the world, there is a national lottery where the probabilities of profiting are surprisingly small, but then the prizes are also very big. It's been said by financial experts who look at the situation that most do not purchase a card with the rational expectation of hitting. Zimbet is centered on one of the national or the UK soccer leagues and involves predicting the outcomes of future matches.

Zimbabwe's gambling dens, on the other foot, cater to the incredibly rich of the country and sightseers. Until a short while ago, there was a considerably substantial sightseeing business, founded on nature trips and visits to Victoria Falls. The market woes and associated crime have cut into this market.

Among Zimbabwe's gambling dens, there are 2 in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has five gaming tables and slot machines, and the Plumtree gambling hall, which has just the slot machine games. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has just one armed bandits. Mutare has the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, the two of which contain gaming tables, slots and video poker machines, and Victoria Falls houses the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, the pair of which have slot machines and table games.

In addition to Zimbabwe's gambling dens and the aforementioned talked about lottery and Zimbet (which is very like a parimutuel betting system), there are also two horse racing complexes in the country: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the second municipality) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Given that the economy has deflated by more than 40 percent in recent years and with the associated deprivation and crime that has resulted, it is not understood how healthy the tourist business which supports Zimbabwe's gambling dens will do in the near future. How many of the casinos will carry through until things improve is simply not known.
