There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where casino betting is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that contains a number of luxuries accompanying the casino, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
